Two For Tea

General Comments Off

If I were picking somewhere that I have gone that was a totally cool experience, it would be a Tea Party rally. I loved every minute of it on 4th of July weekend even though it was pouring down rain the entire day. The energy of the crowd, the patriotism evidenced there, the fact that it was being held on the date of our Independence, all added to the ambience of the event. My spouse and I watched a re- enactment of the Declaration of Independence by the Founders and it brought home to me how wise and thoughtful these great men were and what their intentions were as they were penning this document. It made me appreciate my forefathers as I never had before this time.

If I could jump on a plane and go where I wanted to go right now, I would choose the West Indies. I would probably visit the St. Martin are. I would love to visit here because the weather is fine, there are lovely beaches, yet there are rugged cliffs in the background. There is quite a lot of local cultural activity which would be intriguing and there is a marine reserve that is underwater. In addition there are beaches that allow nude sun bathing to add to the overall hedonistic experience. My once in a lifetime Dutch/French romantic experience!

Neat Peaks

General Comments Off

One of the coolest places I have ever been to is Pikes Peak Mountain in Colorado. It literally takes your breath away from the altitude but it is a majestic peak to ascend to the top. It was cold but not bitterly the day I went up on Pikes Peak. It was clearer at first but in a little while the cloud cover started settling down over the peak and it was getting more closed in. This made me feel isolated but exuberant at the same time and added to the thrill of coming down the mountain! I loved the snow capped peaks and the little lakes that meander through the mountain. I just pulled the car over in the safety banks and got out and stared at them and wondered over nature and its beauty. The fact that it can have snow there and not actually be cold is amazing to me as Imp from a Midwest state where cold is COLD!

As of late I have been going through many new issues that have created new ideas about where I want my life to take me. I am pondering how I can do that and still stay true to my old ideals. My spouse and I had some life changing events occur this year for us personally. Serious injury has prompted me to evaluate where I have been, where I am and where I need to go. I haven’t been really happy for a long time but I just kept putting one foot in front of the other and kept hoping I would happen upon contentment. Now I understand more than ever that life is precious, and that we need to grab it with both hands and hold on to the beauty in life.

The Sicilian and American Mafia is a topic that I can talk about for hours, days even. The world of the Mafia in the period between 1900 – 1970 fascinates me. Al Capone, Carlo Gambino and Bugsy Malone all have a certain romantic air about them. Yes, they were real hoodlums who had no respect for human life but they are still creatures that capture the imagination of millions of people today. The scams they pulled off and got away with, the beautiful women by their side, those magical Tommy guns. It’s all marvelous. No wonder the Godfather movies were such a cult hit around the world.

A Rewarding Read

Harlan Coben at the Los Angeles Times Festival...
Image via Wikipedia

I have just finished a book by my favorite author Harlan Coben. Long Lost is a crime novel and I simply love Coben’s writing style. Most of his books have two central characters. Myron Bolitar is  a sports agent who somehow always finds himself with a problem to solve. Vin is his friend and colleague and has the driest sense of humor you have ever come across. Coben’s novels are gripping and extremely cleverly written. His use of sidesplitting wit and well thought out plots are some of the reasons why I consider him to be the best modern day crime-novelist.

I absolutely love eating! I am fortunate to have my father’s good genes in that I never pick up weight no matter what I eat. I think I would die if I ever had to go on a diet! I love meat – beef, lamb and pork – and it forms part of the daily menu in my household. When it comes to take-out food, pizza tops my list. On the sweeter side I prefer anything that contains custard, be it a custard pudding, custard slices or custard as a topping. Another favorite of mine is Belgian chocolate, the praline in those little treats are to die for!

My daily routine is absolutely crazy. I have just started a new job so it is getting to me a bit. I wake up at six and then get my two girls ready for school, my fiancé gets breakfast in bed and I still have to get ready myself. All of this before seven! After dropping the girls off I take to that treacherous thing they call a freeway and make my way to work. When I get home at around six every night I cook dinner, spend some time with my daughters and then relax with my man for about half an hour. I jump into the bath at about 10 and then it’s straight to bed. I need my sleep because I know that the next day I have to do it all over again!
