What is something about myself that most people don’t know? I tend to be a control freak and I worry that if I ask someone to do something they won’t do it correctly. For example, if I ask my husband to cook dinner or wash a load of laundry it really stresses me out for the rest of the day. I feel like I have to do everything and it isn’t because people aren’t pitching in but it is because in my head I can do it better. So, most people don’t know that I see a therapist. She helps me put things in perspective and when I feel that I am losing control she helps me to see that it is not for me to control it. I also take Xanax at times to control the urge of bursting into flames when I can’t do everything. I am a very driven person but sometimes I need to sit back and let someone else drive. I just can’t find the time to find another driver. Oh well, I am just thankful that my husband understands my “crazy” and still loves me.

My best characteristic would have to be my up-beat we can do it personality. I tend to be in a good mood 90% of the time at home or at work. I feel that there is no point in being miserable. Misery is like a disease that travels throughout your body. You tend to look older because you are constantly complaining about your lot in life or want to make others feel bad. I choose to take the happy route. Both my parents are great role models and it has rubbed off on me. Not just at work but in my marriage as well. A positive attitude and an up-beat drive have kept my parents together for over thirty-five years. I can say that the world may be a better place if everyone would wake up with a smile on their face even if coffee is needed to do so. My best physical feature would have to be eyes. People always tell me that they know what I am thinking based on my eyes. I guess they are able to express my thoughts better than anything else I have. Although, I do love my hair, smile, nails, legs, chest, the list goes on and on. I am truly happy with all of my features but my eyes say it all.

Wow, there are so many things I look forward to on a regular basis. I look forward to spending quality time with my husband and family, going on much needed vacations, meeting new students, and at times going to see a new movie. These things are fine and dandy but it is not the thing I look forward to the most. Every two weeks I look forward to my day at the spa. This is where I go after dealing with my students, parents, and family issues. I can just focus on me. I get a deep tissue massage, pedicure, manicure, relax in a hot tub and a professional blow out. I leave the spa feeling like a new woman. I can conquer the world because after a day at the spa all my worries and stress just melt away. I have it on my calendar so that I can have something to look forward to when I am having a bad day. The spa, something so simple yet it keeps me grounded and happy in life.

The main office in my school is currently being remodeled so I was there to make sure things were done correctly. Not that I don’t think they know what they are doing but, I want to make sure that I get exactly what I paid for. Once that was done I headed over to my parent’s house to help them pack for their cruise. Since we live less than ten minutes from the Port of Everglades in Fort Lauderdale my parents are always cruising. Last minute deals are hard to pass up for my parents. Once I helped them pack on Saturday I then cooked dinner with my mom and dad. My husband came over just in time for dinner and we were just talking about our next family reunion. Last year we all went on Oasis of the Seas. This year we might book a cruise that is headed to Europe. I think that would be great! On Sunday, I drove them to the port feeling a little bit jealous. Allure of the Seas was docked and was waiting for my parents. I thought, “Hey, wait for me. I want to go too!” Unfortunately, my husband and I each run our own companies and taking off last minute is not possible. So, instead I will do my laundry for the work week ahead and look forward to hearing the new details of their trip next Sunday.

This sounds like a pageant question for Miss Universe. I would have to say that I would like to change the world’s view on government. There have been so many deaths because of the government. People have lost their lives for what they believe and yet not much has changed. If people all over the world would realize that there isn’t a single country’s government that can “heal” the world, things would be a lot better. I think each government should only be involved with their country.  For example, let’s go fight the Middle East because they may or may not have weapons of mass destruction. So many people have lost their family members and friends all for what? Maybe, it is time for governments to realize that they can’t direct their own steps and let God handle it.

It seems a bit shallow at my age but it usually puts me in a good mood. I mean come on, who doesn’t tap their foot a little when a Britney Spears song comes on? Since, I was younger I wasn’t really allowed to listen to rap or heavy metal because my parents thought it would change my attitude or way of thinking. So, I guess that is why I listen to main stream Pop the most. I remember in the 80’s listening to NKOTB, Whitney Houston, and Madonna. Although, I don’t think that I was allowed to listen to, “Like a Virgin.” The music I dislike the most it rap music. There is something so degrading about it. They are usually talking about sex, drugs and a thug life. I understand that most music is surrounded by sex because it sells. However, I don’t want to listen to a song that makes me, as a woman feel like a piece of meat. For example, Eminem loves to rap about hurting his ex-wife or doing some kind of criminal act to a woman. Please, don’t even get me started on gangster rap!

My father is from Guyana which is in South America. His parents lived there. I knew my grandparents wouldn’t last forever so I would try and visit every few years. An average flight from Florida to Guyana is anywhere between five hundred to one thousand dollars round trip. So, I had to save my pennies for such a large expense on a teacher’s salary. My grandparents owned over three hundred acres of land. They grew many vegetables and have hundreds of coconut trees. They helped the locals by providing work and food for them. Since electricity is not available where they lived, due to politics, they had to buy everything on a daily basis. There is no air condition and during the summer it is extremely hot but since their house is just a few miles from the beach there is always a cool ocean breeze. When I am there I try my best to put my “city girl” tendencies away and turn into a “farmer girl.” I milkd cows, sheep, and fed the chickens. I also helped pick whatever vegetables were in season. So, when I come back to the States I felt accomplished and know I did my best and made my grandparents proud. Both my grandparents are now gone but I still go back because, that is where a little piece of my heart is. In the future I would love to say the farthest place I have traveled to would be somewhere in Europe.

Since I recently opened my own school this question was an easy one. I would like to have a $1000 shopping spree in Ikea. Ikea basically has everything under the sun that I would need for my school. They have desks, chairs, benches, large family style tables, and accessories. The first thing I would buy is a really nice glass table as my desk in my classroom. I think that by giving my class a modern feel it will endorse progressive thinking. I would also buy plants and really obscure pots. I would buy a funky looking rug for my reading area and maybe even a few bean bags. Ikea has such a different look compared to traditional furniture stores like Highsmith which sells standard furniture for the classroom. Lastly, I would purchase gorgeous cubbies for my students to have a place to keep their belongings. With the money I have left over I would head over to the cafeteria and buy a meal and dessert. You can really work up an appetite after traveling through the never ending rooms of Ikea.
