Fire Extinguishers first originated in England in the 19th century. They are most commonly used to put out small fires around households, offices and other buildings. Different kinds of extinguishing agents are used depending on the type of fire one may be dealing with. Most often than not, they are in a glass case or on a hook in an easily accessible, yet safe place. The reason for this is because of vandalism acts made on them. They are routinely inspected for usability and/or tampering. For most new fire extinguishers, if they have been tampered with, a fine is applied to whoever owns it. Owning one and familiarizing yourself with it, may be the difference between life and death for many.
