After hearing of a tragic house fire that was started by a dropped cigarette when its owner fell asleep, I began doing some research into ways to keep fires from spreading. Much to my surprise I found that there are products called fire retardant. I was amazed to find such a variety of products designed to keep things from burning. It would seem that most of the sprays are very comparable in price and ingredients. Of course, I knew about fire retardant sleepwear for children, but I had no idea that there were sprays for indoor use and outdoor use as well. One can spray anything from walls to bedding and matresses, carpet to drapes, couches to Christmas trees. Outdoor sprays can be used on siding, eaves, and shingles. Paper, wood, or fabric craft projects can also be protected by spraying with a fire retardant. On my list of things to do today, I have written “fire retardant.” I am fascinated that at my age, 64, I can still find things I have not heard of before and that I can benefit from learning about them.
